In the 1800's, fragrances were mainly oil based, however, Victorian ladies were concerned about these perfumes staining their clothes. The clever solution? Perfume buttons.
These buttons had a cloth base like velvet or flannel to absorb and hold scents, and were adorned with metal patterns, often floral. These scent buttons were cherished during the Civil War as sentimental tokens. Some soldiers carried them throughout the war, finding comfort in their presence.
Necklace is adjustable (up to 21 inches) - bronze chain and components. Button is about the size of a penny.
